Friday was Black Friday. Then Small Business Saturday. Followed by Cyber Monday. Today, December 2nd, is Giving Tuesday. I guess the idea is that after you’ve gone and spent all of your money, you need to donate what you have left. That seems kind of backwards to me.
For almost a year I worked in a homeless shelter. It was the most amazing, fulfilling job I have ever had. I learned so much there about giving and loving your fellow man and prayer. I grew to love the people we were sheltering and I felt their unconditional love in return. After my landlord said the house we were living in was going to be foreclosed, the CEO of Joy Junction—the homeless shelter I worked in—offered me a small, staff apartment, rent-free until I finished with my cancer treatments. I moved in, but quickly realized that my immune system was very compromised by the chemo treatments and that I would need help caring for my 11-year old son.
I miss Joy Junction. I especially miss working Sunday nights. I miss the people at Joy Junction. Although, I am hoping people will be generous today and donate to my GoFundMe campaign, I hope that people everywhere will give to others who are also in need. You can donate to an organization like Joy Junction http://www.joyjunction.org/) I know that every dollar JJ receives goes to keep this amazing homeless shelter running. You can buy a $5 McDonald’s gift certificate and give it to that Homeless person you see standing on a corner. You can give of your time by volunteering. The possibilities of how you can give today are endless.
Please reach out today to someone in need. Please Give Today.
