Introducing Dorothy Mater. She started off as Dura Mater (meaning tough mother), but that was changed to Dora Mater, but Dora didn't fit and I renamed her Dorothy--she could end up with a nickname, Dora, Dory, Dottie, maybe?
Yesterday, Indigo retired and handed the reins over to Dorothy at my radiation oncology appointment. Indigo simply has enough BLING and the wear and tear of getting her posed and then back into her bag is very hard on her. She represented my first battle with cancer. When I decided I needed to revive the Sisterhood by getting Jennifer on the road again and sharing my cancer experience, I knew it was time to add another BLING Bra to the mix.
The idea behind Indigo and now Dorothy was that instead of people sending me get well cards or other things, they could send the Sisterhood Bling (anything that could be pinned or attached to the Girls.) These pins would represent love and hugs and prayers and good wishes and positive thoughts. I would take the bra with me to each cancer related visit (and other places when inclined to take them) for support... so I wouldn't be alone.
I need to be doing something and there are/were goals I had prior to the first diagnoses in the Fall of 2013 that were put on hold. I was asked what I would put on my bucket list and being able to produce the Art/Gallery show I intended to do as part of a CAP stone project for my degree was high on that list. I may not complete my degree (I am 7 credits shy), but I can produce the show (I have a location already), I can send Jennifer out again to collect more pins and images (and each Host will have one of their images in the juried show), I can ask people to send me BLING for Dorothy (Dorothy and Indigo will be displayed along with a slide show of their journey with me,) and my images of bras I have collected or people gave me will have their best images on display. Plus, all of the bras will be used to create some sort of soft sculpture. I'll stay busy.
So..... Dorothy needs your help. She needs BLING. We need your love, hugs, prayers, etc... Please. There are three ways people can help me achieve this goal:
1) Send BLING for Dorothy--I recommend something inexpensive, maybe from your jewelry box, an earring without a match always works, pins you get for attending events, etc.....
2) Host Jennifer--she travels to you. You take pictures of her, give her BLING and send her to her next host.
3) Send the Sisterhood a bra that i can use for foto shoots and the soft sculpture(s) I will make for the gallery show.
