A Day with the Sisterhood : The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras is a photography project. It is about so many things. The bra is an icon for women and femininity--but the bra is so much more. often kept undercover, discreet, offering support..... It is about being a woman and the issues women confront. It is about Indigo's personal journey thru her middle years. It is about opening up, being on display, having fun, breaking taboos. These images are meant to be both thoughtful and fun. I try to avoid making HUGE political statements or getting to much into supporting causes, but those issues and causes are part of what the Sisterhood is about. I hope to keep the images tasteful, but occasionally there may be under currents and innuendo. This project is truly what my viewers make it to be....

Jennifer in Giddings Texas : Jennifer has been Visiting with Carolyn at the Lee County Area Cancer Resource Center. She has had a marvelous time. She even made a new Sister-friend. She has one and maybe two more stops to make in Texas. One in February and maybe another in the Spring? If there was a contest to see which state or Provence or.... she makes the most visits to, at this point she has made two trips to Texas and two to Alberta. She will be heading to Wyoming soon.

making Beautiful Music : This one may belong in Indigo's galleries, but we do overlap a lot ;-) The other morning I was inspired by the sunlight on the autoharp. I began by taking images without the Bra, but worked my way into a shoot with Prudence, who aspires to be a rockstar.

Blue Bras : Another great cause. If October is the month the Sisterhood goes PINK, then in September they go BLUE to support Prostate Cancer Awareness. Again, The Sisterhood does not endorse or support any cause. We are a Photo Project.... but in September, I will wear blue bras and go under-cover....

Buttons Graphics : Once a year in October, the girls like to speak out and remind women to do self breast examines and get those mammograms. This project is not about breast cancer. We are not associated to any causes or organizations. BUT people assume that is our message or framing. All I can say is that Breast Cancer Awareness is an important cause and if you are reading this, take care of the Girls, please.

Your Bio

We are the Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras. We are an ever increasing group of discarded bras that belong to an art project by emerging photographer and fiber artist, Indigo. We are really excited to be moving into our new home at SMUGMUG. Well, WE don't live here--we usually live in a tote bag in Indigo's car's trunk--but this is where our pictures are, this is where our story is.
